I read this book from cover to cover. It was concise, well-written, interesting, and even funny at times. Arnett is clearly an expert in his field and an excellent writer as well! Overall the book was functional, and I need to have to for a class so I can’t return it to get a different one. However, when the book arrived out of the box, pages 513-519 were ripped. This was not my doing and I will not take any responsibility for this when returning the book!
Not worth the read
First of all, it came all rolled up in a rubber band. Not in a book. I was under the impression I was buying a book not a bunch of papers all rolled up, there isn't even a cover! I feel very ripped off, especially since I paid 124.00 for this book!
It was required for class. Typically dry and boring.
i love the way it is written. It is a perfect time line of how we as human beings develop from the moment our moth conceives until death and the grieving process. The chapters are long but each chapter is broken up into sections with reviews at the end of every chapter. Over all enjoyed this book.
I really liked this textbook, so much so that I actually looked into the author to learn more about him and his work. There is a personal touch to each section of development (Arnett talks about his teenage years, emerging adulthood, middle age, etc.) and gives to the point descriptions of every stage. It doesn't get too medical or abstract but simply states the facts and disproves myths about growing older. I especially liked how he included how different cultures perceive each stage of life. Great book
Arnett wrote this whole textbook and included pictures of his own children throughout. The book ventures into different theories of human development, and splits up life into different developmental stages. It starts with conception and ends with the afterlife. I loved the chapter on emerging adulthood (ages 18-25). It is written for Millenials, those who are currently in between high school and a career, but still don't feel like adults.
